I had an interest in mathematics and modeling real world phenomena. During grad school I enjoyed learning about stochastic processes and probability which introduced me to modeling the randomness of evolutionary processes. I was excited to be able to test mathematical predictions against real DNA sequence data.

Detail oriented, quantitative skills, programming, reading and keeping up to date with current research and good communication skills.

I took courses, but mainly I learned by working on research projects that required me to apply those skills.

What genetic changes did humans undergo to survive and prosper in different environments? What were the major population migrations during human history?

I am looking for graduate students. If you are interested email me! For more information on the graduate program at UC Merced visit http://qsb.ucmerced.edu
