What inspired you to start research in computational biology?
The subject matter of biology is so vast that it is hard to apply any one specialty across all subject matters. Through math and computer science, one could potentially explore all matters of biology. That is very attractive, versatile, and lucrative.
What are 5 important skills needed for your research?
- Strong understanding of the foundations of computer science, math, and biology.
- Adaptability to apply these principles to a multitude of projects.
- Creativity to utilize a large repertoire of skill sets in a variety of ways.
- Thick skin, in order to work with multiple kinds of researchers (input and output).
- A strong sense of drive to pursue research independently.
