About

This website was established as part of a professional development session for the 2014 SACNAS National Conference. The goal of this session is to inform undergraduate and graduate student SACNAS members about how to start research careers in computational biology and bioinformatics. Additionally, we are curating resources on this site, thus providing access to the broader community.

The session will take place on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 8:30 AM. In addition to introducing resources and concepts, the session will involve a panel discussion with four early-career scientists studying computational biology: Felipe Zapata, Conner Sandefur, Emilia Huerta-Sanchez, and Tracy Heath.

Tracy Heath, PhD

Assistant Professor
Iowa State University (Jan. 2015)

macroevolution, molecular evolution, phylogenetics, Bayesian inference

Emilia Huerta-Sanchez, PhD

Assistant Professor
University of California, Merced

human evolution, population genomics, adaptation

Conner Sandefur, PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

computational modeling of airway surface liquid regulation

Felipe Zapata, PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher
Brown University

evolution, phylogenetics, systematics, biodiversity
